A Rich Heritage of Romance
Rolling green hills, braying bagpipes and crisp red tartan - it really is no wonder the Scottish Highlands have gained a reputation as one of the most ruggedly romantic destinations in all of Europe. We paid a visit to this little part of the world and, amongst crumbling castles and traces of romances long past, we explored all that the Highlands have to offer for the adventurous lovers of today. It didn’t take long to discover that all of the cliches are not only true, but wonderful. It seemed as if every venue was a castle, every designer specialised in plaid and every local greeted us with a smile and a joke (delivered in a warm, lilting accent, of course). The skies on our September trip held nothing but sunshine and we very luckily avoided the rain altogether!
After eight straight days of roaming, exploring, collaborating and photographing all that we found, we believe we can now confidently share all of the hidden (and not-so-hidden) gems that the Scottish Highlands have to offer couples planning a romantic destination wedding. All the necessary ingredients are there, with a few fun Scottish twists sprinkled in for fun (ever thought of cutting your wedding fruit cake with a shiny sword?). Read on to discover our top picks for venues, florals, designers, photographers, planners and everything in between from Inverness all the way to Aberdeen! Just make sure you don’t leave your kilt at home - this is bagpipe country, after all.
